Darkness

Chasing fern fires alone,
The night an adventure
For the dead and living.

Onwards through the forest
Indigo shadows follow
The shadows of footsteps.

New land, unknown to birds
At night, the sounds more loud,
This death to those alive:

To be alone, unsearched,
Unknowing of the dawn,
An echo crying: “Over”.

  1. Lovely poem Ina. And yes, it’s strange how sounds are much louder in the dark! 😊❤️ Xxx

    Intensely sad….but lovely

  3. This is very beautiful!

  4. There is a sparseness and yet an intensity to this one. That’s why I like it.

  5. This poem causes me to stop and think, Ina, and then to reread and wonder; there is an inspiration that is just out of sight to me; I thought I saw it skittering through that forest but then I wasn’t certain.
I think this poem is one to hang on to and come back to.

  6. Especially love that last line, that last line, that last line….
