Unsettling

Unsettling times, you say,
and your shoulders are
older now, you walk uncertain,
your eyes red when you look East,
the sun coming up dripping in blood,
now obituaries are the main
inhabitants of the paper,
and all the names are hammering
in a hail of sorrow,
unsettling is the time.

  1. Ah, the aging of the spirit captured here. That line, “and all the names are hammering in a hail of sorrow” nails the emotion perfectly. Powerful line.

  2. Love it again. You nail the experience of ageing

  3. Oh this is fabulous, so wall expressed as ever. L&H xx

  4. Well not wall! 😊 xx

  5. Sometimes “unsettling” is good, I call it unvelcroing. But whatever, it keeps us alive, on our toes and refusing to “go gentle into that goodnight.”

    • In unsettling times it is good to have some certainties like internet perhaps πŸ™‚ And never go gently into that good night!
