The ferry fly

The ferry has a fly on board,
that’s trying to adjust
whilst flying on from port to port,
it can’t escape, but must
stay in this space, detached from ground,
eternally, till death will make it dust,
and always homeward bound,
forever being cussed.

  1. I love how clear you make the message without explicitly stating it – that forces beyond one’s control can take hold of one’s life and lead it in directions unknown without us being able to change our fate.

  2. A well-targeted metaphor!

  3. I remember noticing a fly in the plane when I was traveling from the UK to the USA (or it might’ve been the other way around) and thinking how its wings could never take it so far … and would it see any difference if it managed to get free when we landed?

Wonderful, and especially those last lines!
