That I am

We were alone, the earth and me
as I had found a place to be
alone, and that I was.
And the trees around me only whispered
to give me some peace and quiet,
hushing the birds.

The earth had much to tell me,
but the good friend that it was, it just listened
while I did the thinking.
And then it sank in
that this was all that mattered to me.
That I am.

  1. …and you are already but not yet as well.

  2. ‘We were alone, the earth and me’ – what a wonderful line, Ina, which sums up exactly how I feel when I’m walking or cycling. A perfect little gem of a poem, and one to treasure. N.xx

    • Hi Nick, thank you very much. To be alone with nature is a real luxury, I am just starting to value the fact I can have that every day, and it costs me nothing 🙂 xx

  3. Yes, in our silence we come to know that “We Are”. And it is just that one thing that truly matters
    Beautiful post Ina.

    • Hi Walter, thank you very much 🙂 Sometimes there is so much noise around us, that we can’t think anymore. That is why I at times like silence better than music 🙂

  4. This is very calming Ina.

It’s a good place to be, being content in the knowledge “That I am”.

A lovely poem well expressed in my humble opinion :):)

    Love and hugs xx

    • Hi Christine, I like the thought of being in a place that is more of a state of mind, nice expression 🙂
Sometimes everything just comes down to existence or non existence. And then we must choose life, I think.
      Love and Hugs! xx

  5. Lovely thoughts here, Ina, I like the way you’ve ‘connected’ yourself with nature in this one, not that you were ever disconnected, of course! We can only see, experience the world, through our own senses, a profound thought.
*Your book has been despatched to me and should be here within a day or so – so I look forward to it!

    • Hi David, thank you very much! I have lived on this island all my life, taking nature for granted, but now I am seeing more into it than when I was say ten years younger 🙂 Aging is a wonderful adventure 🙂

I am so pleased, thrilled, and grateful that you bought the book, thank you so much! 🙂 I do hope you will like it!

  6. Wonderful,

We do I think, as we grow older, appreciate what nature has to offer us.

And, in effect, we set off on a different, very satisfying, journey.

    Love this poem

    • Hi David,
you just gave me a big smile that will keep all day 🙂 thank you!

      Arohanui 🙂

  7. I went for a walk today and as I leaned against a tree for a rest I thought almost the same thoughts as your poem 🙂

  8. that we are ONE….

  9. Yes, simply but truly expressed…something I experience often…and need to experience even more!

‘The earth had much to tell me,
but the good friend that it was, it just listened’

…and that is the earth’s wisdom indeed!

    • Hi Diane, thank you. This wisdom must be a simple thing, or else scientists would have known already what it is 🙂 Thank you!
