Those memories of evenings with a friend
need nothing that the memory would spoil,
no sign that this warm friendship was to end,
not while we both did burn the midnight oil.
.
There was just laughter as I loved your wit
And you liked mine, the jesting puns intended
with flick’ring lights as candles all were lit,
the full round moon just made it splendid.
.
Then you no more returned after that Summer
though not a quarrel was the guilty part
A heart attack, that really was the bummer
apparently you had a weakened heart
.
Mem’ries don’t want tears to spoil their grace
Now you just faded to a different phase
.
in remembrance of my dear friend Corrie , who died 23 years ago
This poem had a former edition, that didn’t have the right flow/rhythm. To rewrite this poem, I had great help and advice from BelfastDavid (David Agnew) , for which I thank him very much 🙂 !
I am not sure this would be a Shakespearean Sonnet now. Maybe it is a Sonnet? 🙂

Big 🙂
This is certainly a sonnet and a good one at that.
It is also a terrific tribute to your friend.
Sorry I haven’t been around this afternoon – I was watching cricket on the TV.
You have done a really good job with this. well done
With love
David
I had to use ‘ here and there to make it more iambic. Still no Shakespearean huh?
I will keep trying to get the hang of it!
Cricket 🙂 I never understood the rules. I heard a game can go on for days! Hope you did enjoy!
Thank you for the compliment 🙂 and your help!

Hi there, thank you!
Definitely the form and the sentiment are there for your Shakespearean sonnet. A poignant remembrance of your friend, conveying the sense of how sad and difficult the loss is for you, while the memories remain so precious.
Thank you very much Elaine! It was a real shock then, and I still remember her with much love.

Loved this – a poignant memory, forever held and enhanced by your words
Thank you very much 🙂
This was beautiful! As one guilty of applying it to my own, the apostrophe usage was sublime and utterly effective in capturing my attention!
🙂 Well it was needed for the iambic rhythm 🙂 Thank you 🙂
