every line in his face she knows well
every spot on his skin is so dear
as he sleeps
while she reads
as he reads
while she eats
as they go through their daily routine
stumbling through old age and ignoring old pain
so much said
during soothing silence of being together
the thought that one day he might be gone
is the only cry in her nights
is her fear
and only then
she is one minute
lonely

Growing old together. Painful and beautiful.
Very nice.
Thank you Thingy!
Makes me think of my parents, they’ve been together going on 51 years. Great read!
Thank you very much 🙂
So touching. I claim it, you have written of me.
Hi Mike, thank you very much!
great ina! love how you describe that old couple’s dilemma. here’s mine for week 38.. http://fiveloaf.wordpress.com/2010/09/30/i-cant-hold-it/
Hi fiveloaf. Yes getting older has some downsides perhaps, but still is worth living for? Something like that? 🙂
A beautiful love poem.
What it is all about really *Sigh*
David
Hallo David.
Yes the last bit of life, I suppose the beauty lies in the meaning you can give to it. A loving relationship is such a treassure always.
🙂
Really beautiful . I too was reminded of my parents like” thoughts not lost” . thanks for sharing Ina!
Hi Butter 🙂 Thank you very much.
You put this very well, with simplicity and sensitivity. It’s very relevant to me at this particular time too – in fact I wouldn’t trust myself to attempt to find the right words. But you do.
Hallo John, thank you very much for your reply!
About the right words: I never know what to say in reply to a great comment like this one though… I hope all goes well for you in the future. And you have a beautiful blog!
“Grow old with me … ”

hallo finp, thank you very much!
This is lovely! But you can’t fear what has yet to happen! Live in the moment enjoying the lines of his face. 🙂
Yes, that is the idea 🙂
Thank you!
Wow…such a deep connection conveyed between two people. An amazing poem.
Thank you very much David 🙂
The familiarity and comfort of a loved one for all of those years is a tough thing to let go of–or think about.
Thanks for a very touching entry.
Thank you!
Very touching- it seemed I had read it earlier- I had not- but familiarity was close! I stay all by myself, so I am not sure how it may feel if I were to think this way.
Lonely it is indeed- a very fine poem to share in the rally.. 🙂
Hugs xxx
Hi Olivia, I surely hope you didn’t read this before lol, it is a fresh made poem 🙂 This phase in life lays ahead for all of us I suppose, when we are lucky. Thank you.

How deeply touching this poem is! “and only then she is one minute lonely” growing old with someone…I am truly speechless for a well thought or complete thought?! A heart piece for sure!
Thanks Chrissy!
Let them enjoy the moments of together, the minutes of loneliness are faraway … very touch. Good Rally!

This is so touching filled with poignant moments of a long life together, that is still filled with such tender love. Thank you for sharing such tender sweetness. ~ Becca ~
Here is my first entry:
Hi Becca, thank you ! Yes, it was about those rare, panic struck moments in the dark hours of the night, when you realize nothing lasts forever.
Congratulations for Jingle’s The Perfect Poet Award of week 38. Well done! I am honored sharing with you ~becca~
Thanks Becca! Congratulations to you too 🙂
Awesome read. I just wished my parents reached old age for them to experience the magic of falling in love over and over and over…
Happy Rally!

Thank you chaspalette!
This one really did touch my heart… I know the feeling of growing apart and the fear of losing someone so dear to me… It’s terrifying.
Thank you for sharing this poem with all of us… It’s a great week 38 entry. Loved it!
Thank you Linn!
i find it kinda bittersweet… made me think of the song “grow old with you.”
I don’t know the song, but yes it is bittersweet. Thanks for your comment! 🙂
Fantastic write! Content yet pained anticipating something there but not yet gone – love it!
Thank you very much! 🙂
Growing old and comfortable together is a better way than growing old alone and yearning for more.
A beautiful poem. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you dan 🙂
That was very poignant. Thanks!
Thank you Madeleine!
So simple, yet with such a beautiful cadence of words and feelings!
Thanks seabell 🙂
I love it. Quiet, comfortable, a sense of unease on the outskirts…good stuff. I can see the link to “Grow Old With You,” which may or may not be the same song the previous poster mentioned. It was written and sung by Adam Sandler, of all people, for the climactic scene of the movie “The Wedding Singer,” and the duet version in the Broadway musical is even better. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CYI5bKZMes
hi Michael, that was a funny clip, thanks! 🙂
How beautiful. The thought of being parted by death is the greatest fear after a life together. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Seasweetie!
the fear of the final parting is very much disturbing when the love of togetherness is etched in the heart. a beautiful poem for the rally.
Thanks Leo 🙂
Tender, sad, beautiful. True love instills in us a bit of fear. This was very well-done. Fantastic!
Hi Mariella, thank you very much! 🙂
